The Beginning of Our Story – Bulgaria

Our story has begun in the summer of 2012, back in Bulgaria. Ivan and I met while we were both students at the University of Economics in Varna, Bulgaria. We were happy to study and live in this city, but we saw an opportunity to travel to the USA, so we decided to use it.

Summer in Alaska

In May 2013, we flew for the first time to Alaska, USA. We spent 4 months there working in a family-owned lodge, up in the mountains of Wrangell – St. Elias National Park and Preserve.

This period changed our lives forever. After the summer we spent there, we started seeing the world differently and, more importantly, we started to appreciate nature and its treasures much more. However, September came and our seasonal jobs ended.

The 3,000 miles Road Trip

After the season in Alaska, we decided to travel to the Lower 48 and feel the real American spirit. Ivan and I took a plane from Anchorage to San Fransisco and from there, we rented a car.

The following road trip was one that not too many people can praise. For almost 3 weeks, we were driving and explored from San Francisco to New York.

It was an unforgettable experience and one to be proud of. Nevertheless, in the middle of October, we flew back to Bulgaria.

Alaska Season 2

We spent the winter and the following spring back in Bulgaria. During all that time, our thoughts were about Alaska and how to go there again. And we did it! In May 2014, we returned for another awesome summer in the biggest US National park.

We were surrounded one more time by gorgeous mountains and huge glaciers. And not to forget about the Northern Lights above us – a truly natural phenomenon! Unfortunately, September came again and we needed to leave this paradise.

The 1,921 miles Road Trip

Before moving to Denver, we did another road trip and flew again to San Francisco. From there, we rented a car and drove to the Mile High City. During this time, we visited some of the most beautiful National Parks such as Sequoia, Grand Canyon, and Arches National Parks.

Ivan and I slept in their campgrounds, which were all provided with a spot for your tent, a fire ring, and a table with benches, plus there were decent showers and toilets. We spent a great time around the fire surrounded by gorgeous nature and clear skies.

Living in Denver for 3 years

We lived in Denver, Colorado for 3 years. During this period, we met a lot of amazing people and traveled as much as we can in Colorado and the neighboring states. The area is beautiful and there are a lot of things to see and do all year round.

However, in the summer of 2017, we decided to change our daily lives and start traveling more.

The Big change and how we got married in Bulgaria

We thought to sell everything we own in the USA and go back to our country, make a wedding, and then travel the world as much as we can. It is exactly what happened. We sold most of our furniture and belongings, quit our jobs and on August 1 we said Good-Bye to the USA, with a one-way ticket to Europe. After that, we planned and organized our wedding for 1.5 months (crazy, right?) and got married in September 2017.

The Honeymoon Trip

Ivan and I started our big honeymoon trip by exploring Southeast Asia. This continent has always been a dream for us and the idea of going there was very attractive. We spent a lot of time planning where to go, what to see, and how to pack.

In the end, we decided that we would travel modestly, only with carry-on backpacks. In this way, we wouldn’t need to check in luggage and, therefore, we would save time at the airports and also some money.

However, the cheapest tickets that we found online were from Athens to Singapore. We bought them and the first destination was set – we were going to Singapore.

Packed and with passports in our hands, we were ready to start our new adventure – travel the world for an unknown period.

7 Months Around The World

With a one-way ticket going on East, we ended up making a full circle around the world, visiting 6 amazing countries – Singapore, Malaysia, Cambodia, Thailand, New Zealand, and Chile.

We traveled full-time for 7 months. During this period, Ivan and I explored many gorgeous places, learned new knowledge and skills, and met some of the friendliest people out there.

Where are we now?

In 2019, we moved back to the States. Firstly, we lived for 2 years in Denver, Colorado. Then, in December 2021, Ivan and I decided to finally move to the mountains. After some research, we chose to move to the town of Dillon, Colorado. Now, we are even closer to nature and the great outdoors.

Final Thoughts

The experience of traveling can’t be compared with anything else and, in our opinion, every person should travel as much as possible, to open his eyes to the world around him.
